A very smart contemporary bar which is all about a boogie and a cocktail under disco lights.

The Venue
Opened two years ago as part of the modern, but rather soulless, Centenary Square development, this is a smart and modern bar downstairs and restaurant upstairs.

It’s got a metal and glass frontage and caramel-coloured wicker chairs on the stone terrace outside. It’s all one room with a bright purple ceiling, floorboards and cream tiling and a chrome-topped bar on the back wall with its flowery patterned purple design.

The DJ booth is on the left of the bar and there’s a small dancefloor to the right. There’s a small nest of Corbusier-style, metal-bracketed vinyl armchairs and sofas in the middle of the room and a brown sparkly wall at the end.

Semi-transparent purple drapes hang down the sides of the windows and a disco ball hangs from the ceiling. They do funk, soul and R’n’B nights here and it’s also popular for hiring out for private parties.

The People
It’s a fairly funky, young crowd who come here, especially in the evening, to mingle, drink and shake to some upbeat sounds.

The Food and Drink
You’ve got Strongbow, John Smiths, Kronenbourg and Fosters (which is £2 a pint) on tap.

You’ve got a pretty exhaustive cocktail list including Daiquiri, Margarita and Raspberry Mojito, plus their own Oriental-inspired blends such as Special Zen Garden, which is fresh ginger elderflower, gin, apple and cranberry juice (£4).

There are three whites, two reds and one rose on the wine front, including a bottle of Terre del Noce Pinot Grigio for £3.25 for a 175ml glass and £12.75 for a bottle. If you are celebrating, then a bottle of bubbly will cost you £24.95.

The food, as the name suggests, is Chinese-Thai tapas-style with dishes such as vegetable maki rolls, edamame beans and mixed vegetables. A Chinese chicken curry is £3, as is sliced beef and chilli, and sushi is £1.75 for four pieces.

The Last Word
A cool, funky and contemporary place which plays some great music. Shame about the rather antisceptic location.
