The ViewBradford Review
A pleasant and comfortable locals’ pub with tasteful decor and a listed bar.The VenueA friendly, intimate local with some regular characters, this pub has a pale blue facade which could do with another lick of paint.
There's a small car park out the front, as well as some hanging flower baskets and a very patriotic St George's flag which flaps about.
At this pub you can really make an entrance, because the door bangs very loudly shut behind you, so watch out - you have been warned.
Even when you're sober the small, wood-panelled bar on your left slopes slightly to the right, and it's so nice that English Heritage gave listed status.
Beams cover the cream ceiling, and there's a fireplace with a copper hearth with smart maroon tiling around the outside and a wooden mantlepiece with a mirror above it.
A banquette runs along the front, and there are few old converted gas lamps, plus a few purple baize pool tables lit by overhead art deco lamps.
A small snug room at the back is an inviting spot for a few intimate drinks. Its glass doors are etched and there is an open fire. It's got a lightly patterned sun-yellow banquette around the outside and dark maroon, patterned, tied-back curtains, as well as cream walls and Victorian-style lamps with brass fittings. There's a small smoking area out the back.
The PeopleA mixed bunch of regular customers drink here, including a couple of characters who'd do well to lay off the juice.
The Food and DrinkYou’ve got a good range of brews here including five guest beers (such as Waggledance, Grand Cru and Jenning’s Cumberland), alongside Beck’s, Carling, Guinness, Tetleys, Strongbow and Fosters.
And in bottles there’s Carlsberg, Beck’s, Budweiser, Magners, Bulmers and Newcastle Brown. Wines come in quarter bottles and a new menu is being introduced as we speak, which will include all the pub favourites.
The Last WordA small traditional pub which is comfortable and serves some good real ales.
